Terms of Service

Version 2026-10-27-v6 (notice wording simplified 2026-10-27). These terms are an agreement between you and Enigma ("we", "us"), an independent game project based in the United States. By creating an account or playing, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. Contact: privacy@playenigma.net.

Who can play

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account or play. If you are old enough to agree to these terms where you live, you confirm that you are. We ask for your birthdate once, to check this, and do not keep it. We delete accounts that we learn belong to someone under 16.

Your account

You are responsible for your account and for keeping your password private. Use a password you do not use anywhere else, and tell us at privacy@playenigma.net if you think someone else has got in. Do not sell, trade or share accounts. You may keep several characters, but should keep one account.

Conduct

Play fair. No cheating, botting, exploiting bugs, or tampering with the game or its servers. No harassment, hate speech, threats, or sharing other people's private information. Names and chat must suit a general audience. Do not attack, overload or scan our services. If you find a security problem, please report it privately to privacy@playenigma.net and give us time to fix it; we will not take action against good-faith research that avoids harming players or their data.

Moderation and enforcement

Staff may read reported chat and review account activity to enforce these rules. They may mute, suspend or ban accounts, and remove characters, names or items gained by breaking the rules. We try to be fair and proportionate. If you think a decision was wrong, email privacy@playenigma.net within 30 days with your username and we will review it.

Game items and progress

Characters, items, gold and other in-game things are part of the game. You do not own them, they have no real-world value, and they cannot be sold for money. Enigma is in active development: progress, balance and content can change, and characters may be reset or removed during testing and updates. If we ever sell anything, separate purchase terms will apply.

Your content

Things you create, such as character names and chat messages, stay yours. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display, moderate and distribute them as needed to run the game and website, including on character pages you choose to make public. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in backups and logs that are deleted on their normal schedule, and anything already reported for moderation.

Our content and copyright

The game, its art, music, code and the Enigma name belong to us or our licensors. You may not copy, resell or reverse engineer them except where the law allows. If you believe something in Enigma infringes your copyright, email privacy@playenigma.net with the work, where it appears, your contact details, and a statement that you are the owner or authorised to act for them; we will review it and remove material where appropriate.

The service is provided as is

We work hard to keep Enigma running, but the service is provided "as is" and "as available", without promise that it will be uninterrupted or error free. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost progress, downtime or indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to US $100. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and if you are a consumer, your statutory rights where you live are not affected.

Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time from the dashboard. Deletion takes effect after a seven day cooling-off period, and signing in during that time cancels it. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms, or end the service, and will give notice where we reasonably can. If we end the service, you may ask us for a copy of your account data.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the game grows. For material changes we will tell you before they take effect, by email to verified addresses or a notice at sign-in, and may ask you to accept them again. If you do not agree, you can delete your account. Continuing to play after the effective date means you accept the change.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York and the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts in New York have exclusive jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer you keep any right to bring a claim in the courts of the place where you live and to the mandatory consumer protections of that place. Before starting a claim, please email privacy@playenigma.net and give us 30 days to try to resolve it.

General

If part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. These terms and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Enigma. You may not transfer your account or these terms; we may transfer ours as part of a handover of the game. If we do not enforce a term, that is not a waiver of it.
